Champions in the: classroom | community | competition

After careful consideration, we decided to forego holding our annual Champion Builders Reception in person this September. The health and safety of our students and alumni remains our top priority, so we are looking into other ways to connect you with your student-athlete this fall.

On behalf of the North Dakota Champions Club and UND Athletics, I thank you for being a member of the North Dakota Champions Club. Your financial commitment to UND Athletics helps to create champions in the classroom, community and competition. As sports seasons will be unconventional this year, knowing you have the backs of student-athletes is especially meaningful. I look forward to the days when we can cheer them on to victory in person.

Stronger together,
Bill Chaves

UND Athletics Director

Volleyball player-turned-coach attributes her success on the court and in the classroom to her supporters behind the scenes.

The Connection
Ashley Brueggeman (Volleyball)
with Jeff McKay, '91

Ashely Brueggeman played Right Side Hitter/Outside Hitter during the Fighting Hawks 2016-2019 volleyball seasons. As team captain, she finished her volleyball career making UND's top-10 in kills (8th) and points (6th). Brueggeman plans to continue helping her team as Volunteer Assistant Coach while finishing her mathematics/secondary education degree in 2020.

Brueggeman attributes the ability to succeed on the court and in the classroom to her supporters behind the scenes. During the 2019 Champion Builders Reception, she had the opportunity to meet one of her scholarship donors, Jeff McKay, '91.

"The scholarships that I received while at UND have meant everything to me. It gave me the rare opportunity to continue playing the sport I love while receiving a great education,” said Brueggeman. “I was also fortunate enough to meet some amazing benefactors, building relationships with the generous and gracious people that made it all possible."

McKay's parents established the James, JoAnn & Jeffrey McKay Athletic Scholarship Endowment in 1992. Since then, the endowment has supported over 10 athletes with athletic scholarships.
